In 2012, the Baskinta Baytouna NGO was founded by a group of young individuals with the goal of transforming Baskinta into a zero-waste village and addressing youth migration. They focus on sustainable development, fair trade, and environmental conservation, aiming to provide local youth with employment opportunities to prevent urban migration. Their flagship project, the Waste Management Project (WMP), involves decentralized waste management and recycling, this includes a small-scale processing facility and a recycling center using the LRDF technique, promoting efficient waste segregation and disposal. The NGO offers services such as waste collection, recycling, environmental education, community engagement, and support for community development, including job creation and municipal assistance in waste management services.

Receiving a $20,000 grant from the (SJIP) marked a significant milestone for the Baskinta Baytouna NGO, enabling substantial improvements in their recycling efforts. The grant was strategically allocated to key areas: purchasing critical recycling equipment, distributing specialized bins for waste segregation, upgrading the recycling facility, and conducting awareness campaigns. As a result, the NGO has made transformative changes in Baskinta, reducing environmental pollution, fostering community spirit around sustainability, and generating economic benefits through job creation and revenue from recycled materials. Their educational programs have also raised awareness and equipped the community with environmental stewardship skills, demonstrating a successful integration of environmental conservation with community development.

Baskinta Baytouna employs a multifaceted funding model, combining grants, revenue from recyclables, community contributions, partnerships, service fees, volunteerism, and sustainability measures to ensure financial stability and effectiveness. This approach not only secures funding for environmental and community projects but also fosters community ownership and participation. Their unique value proposition lies in integrating environmental sustainability with community empowerment and economic development, offering a holistic waste management solution that emphasizes education and innovation. Moving forward, their sustainability plan focuses on financial sustainability, environmental practices, community engagement, organizational growth, and continuous improvement, positioning them as pioneers in sustainable community development.
